I have seen and read people capturing a "Photo A Day" projects. At first I thought AWESOME and even started it but sadly realized I can do that but sometimes I am NOT happy with the pics I take for that day. So, now I'm thinking on a smaller scale to start off with...."A GREAT PHOTO A MONTH" and then move on to Week, and then maybe day. At this point I don't have a job and don't get out much (other than the backyard of an apartment complex). So, next month is September by November 1st I will have "A GREAT PHOTO OF MONTH" started. (Side Note: this project will not include any family members or portraits...promise!) Look for it!

my 1st adventure alone

HaHaHa! as I set out to go to the woods to take some pictures and clean out the car. Well, over a week ago the woods was really under water. I seen the area and decided to adventure out and take some pictures. As I look at the area, the trees are marked above my head with the mud crusted on the trunks & branches. (Im 4'7" tall)

The mud covered anything under 5' tall

A trail only 1 other person was brave enough to adventure...

One more step and I would have been in mud trouble.

The mud took revenge on me and wont let go of my shoe! At this point I had to decide to walk back to the car barefoot or put my shoe on. After seeing all the geese,duck, bird poop & footprints, I decided to stick my foot back in my shoe and keep getting stuck in the mud.

After all the mud caked to my shoes and getting stuck.....I plan on doing more adventures. Absolutely fun!!

Essex Studio

This is the most viewed!

Well,as you know I have completed my 1st Art Walk at Essex Studio. The 1st day was terrifying!! Thanks to hubby being by my side. When I walked in the 1st day, I was ok but started feeling like I did NOT belong. You can say I had a mini breakdown...LOL. Hubby was great, he made feel like my stuff was just as good as anyone elses there. The 2nd/last day was so much better. My husband's side of the family came to see, even my mother in law's husband's sister & boyfriend came. I dont think any of them has been to Essex Studio before, so I feel pretty good that they were introduced to this Art Walk. Because of them I was able to say "Hello" as people came by, which was my 1st step of over coming my FEAR. I am really thinking of doing this again in October.

There are so many art medias. My favorite artwork was on the 1st floor in a large studio, his name is Jesse Kramer. He did portraits and they are powerful, lots of emotion to them.

Next, Colerain Starbucks....my photos will be on display for 1 month.

Art Walk @ Essex Studio

yesterday was my 1st day of the Art Walk. I was so nervous. As I was walking to my section, I was viewing all the other artwork. Most were paintings but there were some other photographers and I was really starting to think twice about what I was doing. Others had there stuff on canvas (large Macro) or the paper they printed on was different. I felt that mine was just really plain.... But as I watched the people walk by my stuff, they were looking at some more than others but they were smiling or giggling and making comments that they liked this or that. I was feeling better by the end of the day. Tonight my husband's side of the family will be there which is very cool because they know I like doing photos. My side didnt show which I (unfortunately) expected. My side of the family probably thinks I am a joke, so this photography stuff is just all ME!!

They had some good ones picked out but now I have to cut them down to 24-30. Just had a last minute idea to shoot 2 little girls. I had 2 scarves(1 red & 1 black) and a green material that I use for green screening. A purple laundry basket and a pillow. Using my new digital camera, I was able to take loads of pictures (over 200) within 1.5 hours. I absolutely love the pics I got.

My father was admitted into the hospital thursday with congestive heart failure. Good news after 4 days in the hospital, all the test, and all the waiting around we did....my father and his doctors are taking steps to make his heart muscle better. But out of all the pics I shot those days, this was my favorite. I like it because it seems like the spotlight is actually on and its on the person (dad) in the bed, and with the darkness surrounding him....

Bought me a laptop

Ok, I was suppose to go to Nashville, TN week to see Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen from Twilight). Well, he cancelled and now I have no reason to go to Nashville. So, I had a decission to make, either enhance my photography equipment or get a laptop. As you can tell, I got the laptop. My reason was that I can work on the photo itself and upload them to make a website for myself.

I went through about 25 disc of old photos. I have collected maybe about 10 photos I would like to put on my website. I am very excited to get this process started. I have many more disc to check out before designing my site.

I was out shooting my daughter and neice for the practice. Well, the entire pic had both the girls chins resting on a peice of flat stone(we covered it with blue material)looking at each other. In the background is this long stove that says "Chambers of Commerce". I knew I wanted to do something with this pic but didn't know what. This picture was taken at the end of a long day of filming "Legend of the Grassman". I saw them sitting there and snuck a quick snap. To me, it gives a father son feel to it, even if they are not related. I like how one is down and the other is sitting up and the distance between them.

This is one of my favorite ones from that same long day of filming. I like the feel this one gives me. The child capturing the director just after filming. The child seems to be enjoying himself. I also like the season, it just lends itself to great background setting.

Love this! again the season is great for background setting. The background just makes the person standout, POPS!

I like this. 2 people in a common place/setting,dressed completely different from each other.I think the 2 subjects mesh well together. Also, I like the idea that neither are directly looking or interacting with each other. Because of the location, I had a lot of shading from the surrounding trees.

I'm back to carrying my camera around w/me 24/7. Today, I had 2 photo opts but my feelings got in the way. 1st: was a homeless man curled up sleeping in between a big potted plant & a wall of an entrance. 2nd: was a man in an alley writting (words,not pictures) on cardboard boxes. In both instances, I felt like I was invading their privacy that I should not be there unless welcomed. Unfortunately in either cases, I did not take the shot even though I really wanted to. My question to you is: Should I have taken a quick shot? My gut is telling me that I should have taken the shot of the sleeping man but ask the alley man if I could take his picture. I actually went back to see if either were still there but neither were, chalking this up to a lesson of think quick. What is your opinion?

June Events

WOW this is has been a very busy month for me. I have had 2 birthays, 2 high school graduations, a trip to Allentown, Penn to see 100 Monkeys in concert, 3 father's day, and my son's wedding. Now I only took pictures for graduations, concert, and wedding. I have about 20-25 rolls of film to develop. I have been working late at work so it is slowing me down to get them developed. As soon as I do, I really do want to post them and see what you all think. I hope to have some time soon to do at least a little at a time. I don't want to overload you all. Soon, I promise.

Hey all, I have been just taking some time for me. I did take some photos, I have to develop them this weekend and plan of get them up here soon.

This weekend I will also have an opportunity to take some shots of where my husband and his crew will be filming a movie sometime in the next couple of months. I will also be making a full body costume, starting this weekend. 1st is measuring and planning where the padding will go. We will be documenting all of this, I can wait.

Evie's Photo Shoot

OK, finally right??? LOL I got to do a baby photo shoot with my granddaughter, Evelyn. I was so excited! I had picked up some black fur for another project but decided to use it for this shoot before I cut it to pieces. My brother also gave me brownish fur for that other project and yes I decided to use it too.

I had to set up quick because Evie and parents were going to be gone the rest of the day, so I had about an hour to shoot. Saying the word "shoot", I was telling my son that I wanted to "shoot" Evie today and his reply was "Don't shoot her, what did she do?" Kids!! But anyway, I set up in the livingroom. I have a large square table that I covered with a blanket and got the child's bobbie (donut like pillow, use to help hold the child while feeding). Just to be considerate, I put a layer of cloth over the bobbie to keep the fur off of it. After that I put the fur over. I made sure to make a dip so she can be laid down easily, and also to crinkle up the fur so it is not so flat.

Now, I had 2 of my work lights (that I bought at home depot for cheap) and a white board for reflecting the light. It was about 11am when I started to shoot, I had to cover the windown with black material (I keep on hand for background use) to darken the room. I think this was a success! The results below.

Someone New to Photograph

Sorry I have been out of commission. In a nutshell, I got sick, got hurt, and I became a Grandmother. My son had a daughter wedsnesday at 445am. Mom and daughter are doing great. I did take some pics but the best one is on my cell which I am trying to learn how to get it off of there. As soon as I get it I will post it but this is just a quick pic. More to come later.

Expired Flim

Husband came across a great deal! Local grocery store was selling 4 rolls of film in a package for $2.48. I was a bit worried because they were expired by 2-3 months. I checked on the internet to see what kinds of problems I would have with expired film. Well, according to what I found and asked some flickr.com people, they assured me that there was no problem really. They have said they used older film such as a year plus expired. The only thing is that the colour is a little off. Well, I didn't find that to be bad at all. I always have my film developed on a CD before printing any pictures I want. That just means photoshop or whatever you use can correct the colouring if it happens.

So the husband did find a GREAT deal.

Cheap Studio Buy

Well, today at Walmart they had school supplies on clearance. I spotted white foam boards, I bought 2 of them. This is to used to reflect light to the area I would like lit a bit more. I still have to buy blue gel film. I have not found any at our local regular stores, I may have to get it at a real photography store or ebay.

Well, I bought my first piece of equipment for a make cheap studio. It is one of those clap on lights. Son needed a senior piture for the yearbook. Well, once i got what I thought we needed. Clamp lighting and blue material, we were ready to set it up. I took about 10 headshots and the only thing that went wrong after developing them was the coloring. My son came out with an orange tint. Husband had to fix the coloring on the computer where turned out pretty good but as you can see it was interest....

After I read, I found out that halogen lights give off a yellow lighting and if you put a blue gel film in front of the light if should even this problem out. Still need to experiment with that once I buy the film. Once I get it I will post my results.

Hello to You

I am starting this blog to showcase my photographer eye (as my husband would say). I have switched over to film and notice that I have become more selective of what I take a picture of but the pictures came out much better! At least that is what I think. Maybe you should be the judgement. I would appreciate any helpful tips and comments. My first thing I want to do is work on my lighting. I bought magazine that breaks it down to where I can understand and don't have to read a whole book before trying any of the examples out. But, this sunday I will be photographing my family for a family portrait. Unfortunately, the sun will be high in the sky. I will post those pictures hopefully within the week.
